Time for a Declaration

And here it is:

From this day forward until the next 17 years or so,

MY HOUSE WILL BE MESSY.

  • There will be dirty dishes in the sink, crumbs on the countertops, and grimey finger prints on the dining room table.
  • Beds will not always get made, especially mine.
  • You may find a pile or two of laundry laying around.  It may need to be washed or just folded and put away.
  • Toothpaste will probably be splattered on the bathroom mirrors.  The toilet paper will probably need to replaced.  Just grab a roll out of the cabinet.
  • All floors will need to be mopped, swept, vacuumed, polished, whatever one is supposed to do to filthy floors.
  • I promise you there will be dust on something.
  • Our business office is in the corner of our bedroom.  There's just no other space for it right now.  If the door to our bedroom is closed, it's a giant mess and not worth peeking in.
  • When walking throughout our home, always look down, not forward.  There will probably be a small toy that you will trip over.

I say all this to say, I'm letting it go.  Yes, I will do what I can, but I'm sick and tired of the unending cycle of cleaning house.  It's wearing me thin.

I'm letting go to smile at my family, not bark at them.  I want my children to look back and remember how much I loved them... not how much I cleaned.

So, if by chance or invitation you end up at our casa some time in the next decade or two, consider yourself forewarned.  Just do me a favor by printing this out and reading it a few times before you head over.

Good for you, your children won't be children for long, they will all too soon be adults,
Enjoy your family, housework will be here 100 yrs from now. Your husband needs a wife who is cheerful and not too tired to listen.
Good luck to you.

Yvonne.

Such a fun post - I even read it out loud to Theo, hehe! I should probably catch this attitude from you, but it might kill me, ha! Kudos to you.

Oh my, Carmen, maybe you need a housecleaner to come in once or twice a week. My wife pays her sister to come in and clean once a week. Of course we don't have any kids so things stay pretty neat. Poor girl.

I wish I could be this laid back, Carmen!!! I like your way of thinking. Unfortunately, I'm one of those ppl will go to my grave trying to put my best foot forward and trying to make ppl think the best of me. I envy your ability to "let it all go." Keri

Love it! If your husband is cool with it... why not? I'm the same... my parents were clean freaks and expected me to be the same... it didn't last for long. My husband is so relaxed... our house doesn't get too messy though because we don't have any children.

Some people say that cleanliness is next to godliness... but there is no where in the bible that says this. I do believe in good hygiene... but cleaning to impress... not worth it. Your sanity is more important!

Your ministry is to your family- they are your priority. Love on them girl! When it comes to cleaning- do what you can- it's secondary to everything else!

Reminder- I have a 3yo and 1yo. If you've been in my shoes, then you are the ones who will appreciate this post the most.

I wasn't implying that I would stop cleaning all together. There's a major difference in being "messy" than being "dirty."
